Feb. 25… another this and that post…

The challenge quilt is done ,and given back to the church sewing ladies. I enjoyed doing it but I don’t think I will do another one even though I have the pattern.

The colors aren’t true in the above photo…

A little more true here.

Now for spring flowers that are popping up very quickly ,the days have been warm and sunny.

Some unique photos… a trees that is washed out… gnarly roots.. limestone…. hurricane damage….

Birds nests, and one that also uses cotton for bedding!😄

And a lovely sunset at the end of a beautiful day!

Have a great week !

Sept.3…. Noble Jones

Just a little Peek into some history of Savannah ,Ga. The Wormsloe Plantation is a lovely place to visit ,Spring and fall are my picks when visiting because it can be very warm in summer.

A breathtaking avenue sheltered by live oaks and Spanish moss leads to the tabby ruins of Wormsloe, the colonial estate of Noble Jones (1702–1775). Jones was a humble carpenter who arrived in Georgia in 1733 with James Oglethorpe and the first group of settlers from England. Wormsloe’s tabby ruin is the oldest standing structure in Savannah.

Surviving hunger, plague and warfare in the rugged environment of Georgia, Jones went on to serve the colony as a doctor, constable, Indian agent, Royal Councilor and surveyor, laying out the towns of Augusta and New Ebenezer. He also commanded a company of marines charged with defending the Georgia coast from the Spanish. Jones died at the beginning of the American Revolution, but his descendants sustained Wormsloe until the state of Georgia acquired most of the plantation in 1973. ( note.. taken from their website)

Some of his tools on display

Blacksmith’s building

The chinking was made with clay and oysters shell

The burial place of Noble Jones and family

Part of the remaining fort wall

After lots of walking ,there’s nothing that is more refreshing then some ocean water and sand to the feet.

And a sketch.. a hut on the plantation….

Have a lovely week ,friends!

June 18th … A Drunkards trip around the world

I’ve had to put aside my double wedding ring sewing for there’s another project that needs to be done first. I need to put together a  quilt top that is to go into a grandma’s room that an lady in making in her house . I do not have to handquilt it as this lady’s friends wish to quilt it for her. The material that is to be used in the quilt is vintage and is pink. I wasn’t sure what pattern I should work with until I came across the drunkards trip around the world. Perfect …. why … it’s perfect for two colors, it’s an old pattern ,and it interesting enough that the design has been found in ancient Egypt.

I drew up my own pattern to keep me straight with the colors, also added the twist with the corners.

Fabric up close. I would take a guess that it is a fifties fabric , but if someone knows for sure then please let me know!

Three rows done

Does it look like it would fit in a grandma’s room?

It has warmed up big time in GA.. today it was 93f degrees (33.8 c) So the walk that I usually take was cut start until it cools off!!

That clouds were beautiful, hoping that it means rain is on the way!!

This looks like a frog jumping over an alligators snout. Lol

Also was chasing butterflies..

And seeing if the little wrens weren’t too hot..

Their little mouths were open hoping for a bite.😀

The little dahlia was posing so pretty that I readily agree to take its picture.

Now off the make a menu up of the meals I wish to put in the camper for our trip to Kentucky .

As Leona has a lower immune system, I don’t take her out to public eating areas or restrooms.  She also has a special diet that is easier on me if I just plan them out ahead of time. It is amazing to me that a child who the doctors at one time said she will only have a lifespan of ten years ,is now going on twenty.

The next post I’m sure will be on wedding!😀

Until then.. take care , Deb

Cows grazing and some of the mamas bellowing at their young for wondering to far, then a little mooing could be heard.

Farm lane also used by the deer ,which we have a plenty,

Rustic old fences and old hay ring

From woods to a field of corn

From berries on a cedar tree to the first yellow rose of spring..

To the amaryllis blooming to remind me of my Pop who gave me a bulb the last Christmas he was living. Now I have many bulbs in the flowerbed.

Jan.16th.. jeans and fleece

My daughter hasn’t been doing so good this last week, she has a nasty  cold, when she gets sick  like this I need to be within sight to help her with everything. So being in the sewing room was not an option,no problem… Just need to do something close by on a table near her. Off to search….. this is what I found..

Some of my dads old jeans with a small remnant piece of denim…

Some fleece strips that was in amongst mom’s scraps.. I cut the jeans up into 6.5″ blocks ,also the fleece.

Had enough blocks to make two crib size blankets. I then pulled out my treasured old girl ,she was up to a good warm up. This is the end result of one of those stacks of blocks.

Front.                                                                             Back

I have 88 of the log cabin blocks made.. I slipped into the sewing room a few times when Leona was napping.
When out getting some fresh air while second daughter LouAnn did the caretaker duty.. these cows were very curious about the old lady walking down the road. :))

Have a good week…Deb

If you look close you can see cattle in the distance.

Curious dirty pigs, these warm days often finds them laying in the little mud hole they made from the drinking trough.

Lovely plumes

Lovely butterfly, and there are also the ugly catapillers eating the plant.Guess I’ll let them live if them don’t destroy the plant to much.

Dragonfly

Knockout rose

Little lizard

Beautiful dead butterfly that I found.

Large fluffy clouds

And this is what I have been working on this past week ,will be finishing up the job this week. Grape juice.

Not much sewing done this week, did get three rows together on the log cabin and a little beanie crocheted. Here is grandson Brent trying it out.
