July 15th ….. a box of scraps

I received a pile of scraps. Ok, so your thinking what’s new ,that poor dear always has a pile of scraps.  And boy are you right!!

Last weekend an older gentleman from our church ,who to keep himself busy, cuts up fabric into 6″, 5″and 4″ that people give him. He does this to support a program that helps poor widows support herself and her family. The widows will receive these blocks with batting and backing, they then will make quilts to sell. To make a long story short… He brought me his scraps to put into quilt tops for Christian aid ministries. Of course.. I can’t say no. Here’s the big bag of scraps, which I dumped into this box.

The type of box… my daughter likes lightening McQueen.. so instead of wearing princess pull ups she wears these😁

I want to go through to sort the big pieces from the little . I made a few blocks like this to see if I cared for them. I believe it will make a nice top.

This is what I’m going to work on this week, the weather is to be hot  for awhile now.. time to keep myself in except for early mornings.

I was messing around in my fabric closet, digging down under looking for an old briefcase that I wanted to put my art stuff in to keep it all in one place. I got a surprise…. the old case wasn’t empty.  Guess what was in it!! No not a mouse nest!😜 an unfinished double wedding ring top.

There are two rows of four blocks to a row. It is in vintage fabric except for the navy blue . Plus there are lots of little pieces ready to be pieced.

I want to make this into a throw for at the end of a bed, then use the rest of the pieces in this top

I had the life scared out of me Saturday… I went out to do some watering , I have some small oak tree starts that needed a good soak, well.. when I first grabbed the hose to fill up some pails I  thought heard a raspy noise .. looked around .. saw nothing ,continued to work ,when all of a sudden Wiggles ,our Jack Russell came unglued!!!! Not more than 3 feet away was a rattler!! Needless to say it’s history.  Can’t say I care for a rattlesnake right outside in my front yard.

We had a storm pass through this evening ,the clouds were beautiful!

Take care ,Deb

June 18th … A Drunkards trip around the world

I’ve had to put aside my double wedding ring sewing for there’s another project that needs to be done first. I need to put together a  quilt top that is to go into a grandma’s room that an lady in making in her house . I do not have to handquilt it as this lady’s friends wish to quilt it for her. The material that is to be used in the quilt is vintage and is pink. I wasn’t sure what pattern I should work with until I came across the drunkards trip around the world. Perfect …. why … it’s perfect for two colors, it’s an old pattern ,and it interesting enough that the design has been found in ancient Egypt.

I drew up my own pattern to keep me straight with the colors, also added the twist with the corners.

Fabric up close. I would take a guess that it is a fifties fabric , but if someone knows for sure then please let me know!

Three rows done

Does it look like it would fit in a grandma’s room?

It has warmed up big time in GA.. today it was 93f degrees (33.8 c) So the walk that I usually take was cut start until it cools off!!

That clouds were beautiful, hoping that it means rain is on the way!!

This looks like a frog jumping over an alligators snout. Lol

Also was chasing butterflies..

And seeing if the little wrens weren’t too hot..

Their little mouths were open hoping for a bite.πŸ˜€

The little dahlia was posing so pretty that I readily agree to take its picture.

Now off the make a menu up of the meals I wish to put in the camper for our trip to Kentucky .

As Leona has a lower immune system, I don’t take her out to public eating areas or restrooms.  She also has a special diet that is easier on me if I just plan them out ahead of time. It is amazing to me that a child who the doctors at one time said she will only have a lifespan of ten years ,is now going on twenty.

The next post I’m sure will be on wedding!πŸ˜€

Until then.. take care , Deb

August 14th, tech problems and a relaxing summer eve

Why is it that a computer or printer decides to go on the blink when you are in need of  them right at that moment?!

I have been working on the log cabin block with the pile adding up,when the printer decided that it no longer wanted to print newspaper foundation paper that I use. πŸ˜– now what.. I didn’t want to wait until it was fixed or have to buy a new printer.. So how could I work with what I had? πŸ€” then I had a light bulb moment when I remember reading long time ago how a quilter used her sewing machine to mark lines. If I copied off on regular printer paper which it would still print ,I could use that as a pattern guide!

So I took and unthreaded the machine, removed the bobbin, added a size 14 needle. I added ten newspaper foundation paper to one regular printed paper.

Sewed the lines as you can see. This is how it looked when finished.

Now all I needed to do was letter or number the steps in order of which lines were to be sewn first ,also which were to be of a darker fabric or lighter fabric. Worked great!

I now have 100 blocks done.πŸ˜€

This evening was warm with a soft wind, flowers ,wonderful clouds, and a moon. Oh yes, also a traveling locust.. (Sorry folks it’s a Cicada)

Can you see the little spider hiding?

And one needs to add a sunset.. Right?! This was taken several days before though.

Wishing all a lovely week, Deb

July,17th.. A quick trip

My weeks plan was completely changed from what I had thought it would be!! We received a call from Hubby’s mama that aunt Grace had quickly passed away. They think that she had ALS, she had been in a wheelchair for two years because of her back which gave her a lot of pain. The disease slowly work is way up to her lungs and she died from carbon dioxide as she could breathe in but not out.

So… A funeral was quickly a part of my weeks plans. The part that I wasn’t looking forward to was the part that it was in Ohio… A 13 hr drive….. We were also very limited to how long we could be gone for my girl wasn’t feeling good ( not a good week for her either) . We couldn’t leave until  Thursday night until middle daughter came to care for Leona..we left at 7:30 ..arrived out in Ohio in time to wipe the tired wrinkles from the eyes and fresh clothes for the Funeral at 10:00 Friday morning.

Now hubby has many cousins in that area,  so after the funeral, it became party time ! Even uncle Henry enjoyed the action all around him,and joined in.  We finally saw a bed at 12:30 am Saturday. Slept until 7:30 then on the go again to have breakfast with cousins. One of the cousins and I decided to check out some yard sales that looked like fun. And they were fun! πŸ˜„ find a small portable ironing board to go beside my sewing machine! πŸ‘πŸ‘    Left for home around noon and arrived before 1:00am Sunday morning. Oh… Let me tell you that my bed felt wonderful!!

When traveling there were was wonderful moments that were breath taking! First one…

It reminded me of a person praying on their knees.

Second one…

The camera doesn’t near catch the colors.

Then the cousin that I went to the yard sales with shared her quilts that she had….

This one was from her great grandma… Don’t you love those little blocks!! Date of quilt 1920’s

The back of quilt

Quilt 2 .. This one was from a elderly lady that she worked for..

I didn’t get a picture of the whole quilt… Limited time πŸ™…. It was mostly feedsack fabric and in excellent shape!! Also like how she put little stripes between the four patch blocks. Date of quilt .. Probably 1930’s

Have a great week ! Deb
