Dec. 25 th ..a good day

The family had a great time together, lots of laughter, food, even naps were included, and play. 🙂

Several of us did something new to us. My daughter got a cardstacker set. I had never heard of it before. If you want to see some amazing cardstacking , check out the fellows website at http://www.cardstacker.com.

Here is how you start…

Takes a bit to get the cards to go right ,my cards fell many times….even a little breathe of frustration would send your cards over.

My first stack building was a little wobbly. 😄

The second one much better…

Would you believe I won the cardstacking contest? 🙂  maybe slow and steady  isn’t so bad after all. 😀

But if you compare this stacked building to what I did…. I still have much to learn!!

If you looking for something different that’s going to give you a challenge try cardstacking. It’s rather fun.

Dec.25 th….. Merry Christmas

            ‘Christmas Bells’
I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet

The words repeat

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And thought how, as the day had come,

The belfries of all Christendom

Had rolled along

The unbroken song

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Till, ringing, singing on its way

The world revolved from night to day,

A voice, a chime,

A chant sublime

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
Then from each black, accursed mouth

The cannon thundered in the South,

And with the sound

The Carols drowned

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
And in despair I bowed my head;

‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said;

‘For hate is strong,

And mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!’
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:

‘God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!

The Wrong shall fail,

The Right prevail,

With peace on earth, good-will to men!’

Dec.15 th… torn denim jeans, mug rugs and kiffles

Or maybe I should just say..”all in a day’s work “😄

My son has this problem of  tearing his denim jeans right by the pocket ,it is always on the right side. I think it must be the wallet pocket. Here is how I fix them..

I cut a strip of  denim from old pants or denim fabric scraps, then glue the strip to the back side of torn jeans.

I used the lighter side of denim strip for the jeans are faded.

I rip the seam of the pocket down to where  you can put the tear together as much as you can. Glue the fabric to the strip well, you don’t want the strip to move on you…wait a bit for the glue to dry. I usually start to work on another pair of jeans with the same problem.

Then you sew ,I usually use a stitch that won’t let the fabric fray .

After repairing the tear, place the pocket of jean down, and sew it in place . Ta da… your done!

Two pairs of pants ready to be wore again.

I received these beautiful mug rugs from a blogging friend. It took them close to a month for them to go from Hungary to the USA. I was beginning to think that they were lost by postal service, when I was pleasantly surprised by them this week!! I love them!

The fronts

The backs…. aren’t they delightful!!

And yes,I’m slowly getting cookies made for Christmas. Today I made the special ones that my Grammy Tress made. I look forward to making these special cookies , they bring back warm memories.

Have a lovely weekend, Deb

Dec.12th… a few more tied quilts, and an experiment

I finished up some tied quilts, some were from scraps that were in Mom’s attic. Some were old knits that were in great shape!

I put fleece on the back of the knit,it is so soft.

Then I had some heavy fabric, I think it is upholstery fabric . It is one heavy quilt!!

Then a few more scraps put to good use!

I received the cutest little gourd ornaments from my oldest son.

Now the experiment.. many years ago I used to make friendship cake which my hubby loved ,somewhere along the line I last the recipe. I love the Internet when looking for a recipe,it’s amazing what you can find. I found this fruit cake recipe that has a starter that needs to set for 30 days. It won’t be ready for Christmas like I wanted but it just might be for the New Year! Here the starter in its jar.. if it is a good recipe I’ll post it.

Have a lovely week! Deb

Dec.4th  The New Home machine

I had a new interest for a day or two that wasn’t very sewing machine productive, although it did help the handquilting along. My daughter Leona wanted me to watch Chronicles of Narina with her,I have always enjoy reading the books so I found the movie interesting. Oh, yes I still enjoy children’s books.😄 Do you?

Now to the New Home sewing machine that was hidden in Mom’s attic for many years ,at least thirty some years. She was in a dirty state when I found her.  “the ol’ girl” ,as I call her , was stiff and froze up from sitting in her box way too long, the old oil was nasty and ugly. She is in much better state now, soap, alcohol and a spray that my husband uses out at the shop did much to improve her looks and movements. I did replace the motor ,for the other motor had a funny noise. The tension didn’t take much to adjust to proper sewing. The ol’ girl is up and running  ,a delight to sew with.

I cut out some patches that were cotton ,polyester/cotton ,polyester and other fabrics that were about the same weight. I wanted to see how the ol’ girl handled different types of fabric tension wise. She did good handling the different fabrics without skipping a stitch.

Here is the top not ironed that the ol’ girl sewed together.. not bad for not being used for 30 some years .

Oh yes, I finished  miss Paulines quilt top,it is on is way to her now.

My nativity project has been put on hold for some knotted quilts are in demand right now… so beings it is going to be a rainy week ,perfect for tying tops!
